We were taking photos of a Merlin sitting on a fence post at about 100 feet distant.
A Magpie landed on the next fence post and almost immediately the two attacked one another.
We only got a few photos of the battle as the two birds disappeared behind some bushes, reappeared further out in the field, disappeared behind the bushes again and when they reappeared the Merlin had the upper hand and the Magpie fled.
