14 October 2019 - Mallards and a Huge Snow Storm

Huge snow storm over the weekend. Blew from Thursday morning through Saturday. Dumped about 2 feet of snow in our yard. Was quite a display by mother nature. Our power was off for 26 hours. Many others still have no power. Town response was excellent, they had front end loaders roaming the streets removing fallen trees from the roads. Fire Department went door to door Saturday conducting welfare checks, offering people water, (Town water supply stopped Saturday). They also advised people that a hall in town had been opened offering hot drinks, soup and a place to warm up.
State of emergency has been declared by the province as there was so much damage to the power grid with 10's of thousands of people still without power. A few isolated communities have been evacuated due to damage to their power lines. Stores in town closed during the storm and experienced huge losses in produce and meat. Our little convenience store/coffee shop was the only store with power as they were fortunate enough to be on the same power line to the RCMP and fire station which had power restored very quickly. They sold out of bread and milk within a few hours and had a line up that snaked around the store. They sold over 1,000 cups of coffee Saturday morning. Owner allowed people to take items on the promise to pay when power was restored.
