Photos from March 2010.
This was the first time I witnessed the communal rearing of Canada Geese young.
Goslings and Geese had been grazing on the hill leading up from the pond. The Geese and all but 3 or 4 of the Goslings were returning to the pond when a few of the Goslings realized they had been left behind. Panic ensued with the lone Goslings racing down the hill to return to the gaggle. Some tumbled down the hill for a ways in their panic. But they were on their feet and charging down the hill again just as soon as they stopped tumbling. |
The Goslings all lined up at the waters edge and at some unseen signal entered the water and swam out to the adults. |

Bath time...play time |
Watching the group swim across the pond in line was pretty impressive |
They all exited the water in line then spread out to do some grazing. I was only 10 or 15 feet away for this photo. The Geese pretty much ignored me. |
