Grand Canyon Hike Oct 2014 - North Kaibab Trail and Bright Angel Trail - Series 1

Grand Canyon Hike Oct 2014

My friend, Dave Carnochan, hiked the North Kaibab Trail and the Bright Angel Trail, about 28 miles round trip, in the Grand Canyon in October.
He has shared a number of the photos he took and granted me permission to display them on the blog.
He even spotted a California Condor.
The hike took 6 days, the temps ranged from 27F (-2.7C) to 65F (18.3C) overnight and ranged from 65F (18.3C) to 90F (32C) during the day.

Difficult to judge the height of this monstrosity by the photo, but, I would estimate it being several hundred feet in height.

Solitary Sandpiper
I was seated at a bench and could hear this one calling very close by, but couldn't figure out where it was. Then I heard it calling and further away. I finally realized that it had been about 5 feet in front of me on a little log right against the shoreline but hidden by a small embankment. I got these photos at about 30 feet.

Black Capped Chickadee

This little one put on a bit of a show for us, it was quite interesting to watch as it rooted around the branches for food.

Fort Whyte Alive Photos - Sept 2014

Photos from a trip to Fort Whyte Alive in September.
A great outing saw lots of birds, spent over 4 hours wandering around taking in nature.
Added Caspian Tern to my list, they are not endangered here anymore but they are not very common to see.
